Spring Carrot-Raisin Salad: Light, Warming, and Kapha-Balancing

As the days lengthen and the air grows warmer, spring invites us to awaken and refresh our digestion. This simple carrot-raisin salad is light, invigorating, and especially supportive for balancing Kapha energies in the body. Its warming spices and zesty lemon awaken the appetite, encourage digestion, and reduce heaviness.

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium carrots, washed and shredded

  • 2 tablespoons golden raisins

  • 1/8 inch piece fresh ginger, grated

  • Juice of half a lemon

  • 1/16 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp cardamom

  • 1/8 tsp black pepper

  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves

  • 1/4 tsp raw sugar (optional)

Method:

  1. Toss the shredded carrots, raisins, and ginger with the lemon juice and salt.

  2. Mix the spices and sugar together, then gently fold them into the salad.

  3. Allow the salad to rest for 15–20 minutes so the flavors can mingle and deepen.

  4. Serve fresh as a light, awakening appetizer that supports digestion and invigorates the senses.

Tip: For extra springtime freshness, sprinkle with chopped mint or cilantro just before serving, or add a small handful of lightly toasted sunflower seeds for a gentle crunch.
